The Noodle Compound V. 2.0

It's mostly like that for me as well and 16 seems to be not too much of a deviation from the average. It's just a tendency to be like that.

The time thereafter can sum up to more influence, but you probably know a couple of songs which you heard at 13-14 and which you still like, even a few which your intellect might regard as silly. Things burn into your mind more deeply while your brain puts you on drug-like hormones during puberty.

If the 13-14 thing is true, then in my case it would be Queen. That came back in as Freddie Mercury died around that time. Queen had been producing average music for years then, with the occassional brilliant track. They were always a bit hit and miss as far as I am concerned, some outstanding and brilliant pieces and some massive turds, but Krischan's description (which I tend to apply to Prince, or David Bowie) is very accurate.

That's 1986/87 for me. I actually don't agree with that in my personal experience (not that I would DREAM of arguing with YouTube ...) For me, music from the 1970s, when I was really little, is really burned into my brain. BeeGees in particular. I think listening to "Stayin Alive" has to be one of my earliest memories.

Just the usual physical issues, nearly having my heart broken - I had heard of heartache but didn't think you would literally feel it that much in your chest as physical pain - and I'm deeply worried about my future as I don't know what to do with my life.

Don't want to rain on the wedding parade though, or I'll scare off the penguins.

I'm sorry to hear that. Sounds like your life is on a bit of an upwards trajectory now at least in the heart department.

Hey hey. Much love to the penguin and Leo!

Speaking of Iron Maiden, and this is a BRILLIANT segue here, who has seen Bohemian Rhapsody? It made me a Queen fan. I’d always liked most of their music but you know how something just “clicks” and you’re like “OMG why didn’t I notice this before?”

How is everyone? I’m sorry I’ve been away so long, it totally was an accident.

I haven't seen it or have a whole lot of desire to see it really. But I've heard nothing but good things about it, and listened to really interesting interview with the actor that plays Freddy Mercury in it.

A few days ago, I saw a Youtube video which said that our musical tastes are influenced the most by what we heard when we were 13-14 years old. For me, that was about 1980-82. I heard AC/DC a lot and a bit later, heavy metal, but also mainstream Rock and Pop.

Very true for me, which equates to my prolonged love of 90s alternative! Nirvana, Weezer, Pearl Jam, GooGoo dolls, Smashing pumpkins, Green day, Bush, Everclear....etc, etc

@kestegs: I presumed you would like to listen to silence since because when you where 13 or 14 there was nothing and you later on created the big bang. To each there own though if you want to pretend you are that young, go ahead. Just remember you don't fool us.

Hmm doesn't seem to infuence me that much to be honest. I still like some of the music that I listened to at the age of 13 - 14. But most of it, not much so.

I still listen to music from when I was a kid. I have turned my kids on to my old music as well and they like it. My daughter called me the other day and asked for me to make her a spotify playlist of old rock and roll. Said she was getting bored of her music. I was ecstatic and made the playlist for her. She also told me earlier in the fall that she wanted to get a turntable and buy some records (or vinyl as the kids call it today). I have a used system that I bought for her sititng in my basement. Will give it to her for Christmas.

Music has always been a big thing for me. I consider myself a "radio child" because I always had the radio on, it's how I got some of my music news, learned the different styles of bands, learned about some rock history and what not, listened to it when I would write, do homework, sleep (I kept the volume very low and sometimes the music would come into my dreams. It was a cool experience).

I will take Kris's original statement a little further-- what about 12? For me, it wasn't until I was about 12 that I REALLY started paying atttention and developed my musical tastes. I was raised listening to a lot of different things from 80s rock to 90s pop hits to country (GEROGE STRAIT IS FOREVER THE MAN! FIGHT ME!) I had a boy band phase when I was 10-12. However, my musical tastes changed once I met my elementary school best friend and she introduced me to the nu metal scene that was happening at that time. She had an older brother who was listening to it and so we ended up going down that path too.

With that said, I started tuning in to the hard rock stations and grew to love Korn, Disturbed, Rob Zombie, Manson, NIN, Bush, Creed (LEAVE ME ALONE! IT WAS 2000-2001!), and so many more. I have created a playlist on YT and most of it is music/one-hit rock wonders from '99-02-ish era (Trust Company, Adema, Powerman 5000, Oleander, etc)

Thiiiissssss. I was still little Leo in the 90s, but I listened to them actively when I was 12-13 and grew to enjoy them too. (P.S. You forgot Gin Blossoms, dude. :p <3). What's odd (secretly a blessing?) is I can't stand Green Day much now, lol. It might be a phase, but I change the station whenever Green Day comes on.

I am a sucker for grunge, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden being my faves. (that feeling when you realize that both singers of both bands have died, albeit years apart) (it's that same exact feeling when you watch old WWE footage and see Chris Benoit, Chyna, and Eddie Guerro all in the same ring)

Since we're talking about it, I rode the tail end of emo music hard in '06-'08-ish. It's weird because while I listened to Paramore, 30 Seconds to Mars, MCR, I also got into the "metalcore" scene (listened to A LOT of Atreyu, KSE, BFMV, Avenged Sevenfold). Some will still call that emo and some will say it's not. All I know is there are too many goddamn lables and I have a headache thinking about it. Listen to what you enjoy. Everyone else can piss off.

I never got into vinyl. I see them in the store sometimes and they are like $40 per record, which seems a little excessive, although I understand why they're expensive.

Creed...lol.

I have grown a bit away from some bands that seem kind of juvenial now, and I can see Green day in that category, Blink 182 fits in that category also, but I can't think of any others off the top of my head. They just lack the depth of meaning in their lyrics for me to really enjoy them anymore even if the music is still good.

Never a big gin blossoms fan, but do like them. There was also a lot of bands I left off of that list, I could go on. I am also a big fan of Simon and Garfunkle, James Taylor, and Jimmy Buffet, those were some of my dad's favorite bands when I was young.

I will listen to anything not country, heavy duty rap, or death metal (never heard that or metal though)80s 90s 2000s 2010s. Currently really into progressive house. Sunlight project- speranza is my current theme song. Rob zombie I liked in the early 2000s

I enjoy a whole lot of styles of music. Though my favourite music is still metal (mostly folk / medieval metal nowadays though). Though I will play clasical music, raegea, rock and roll, some rap (not the kind about bitches, money, guns and drugs though), and almost any kind of music when the fancy to listen to it strikes. There are a few genres that don't appeal to me, like drum and base, hardcore, screamo and others.

Still mainly metal and rock for me. But currently enjoying a top 2000 of all time list on the radio as well, so the spectrum is quite broad.
