Remember they're not actually saying "aliens". For decades and decades people hear "UFO" and immediately jump to perverted little green men from Mars who have shown up to sodomize everybody, which is partly why the decision was made long ago to just deny everything. What they're actually saying is "We got no friken idea what that thing was." Could be aliens, could be weather balloons, could be a time traveling Delorean. That's why they're called unidentified flying objects.

That rover has similar tech to Nasa's previous rovers: Spirit and Opportunity. But, China is catching up rather quickly.
Looks like another video was confirmed. This one was off the coast of California. Also a 60 minutes interview with a retired Navy pilot stating that he encountered this sort of thing pretty much every day for two years.
Might be entertaining to watch what happens if they actually did come out and say that these are in fact aliens. I wouldn't expect anything more than "we don't know" though.

I saw that. Hopefully we can get all the junk cleaned up before we knock ourselves back into the 1970s..
Would be a big help in a whole lot of ways if we could figure out a better method of getting off the ground. If just getting from the dirt to orbit didn't require so much fuel and debris, the rest would be a relative cakewalk. At least up until the point of exploring outside our own solar system. That would require we figure out FTL travel or hypersleep or something along those lines.
Even something silly like sending up a garbage truck with a big scoop on the front of it to collect all that space junk would at least be in the realm of possibility.
The problem with space junk is you'd have to be able to match the speed and direction before you could even attempt retrieval. It would be like trying to catch bullets. If you stand in front of it and try to catch it, you are going to have a hole in your mitt.
Yeah, at best you might be able to deflect it so it either burns up in the atmosphere or shoots out into deep space. You could catch it in theory with some kind of funnel and a backstop, but really it's more a question of just how badly do you want to collect it v.s. the cost of doing so.
Can't spare them, they're too busy being used to start wild fires in California. 'Cause that's a thing.
