Ok Travian Story time:
I only played two seasons of that game. For those that never played Travian you start from scratch with nothing and the beginning of the season and then over the course of the season which lasted from weeks to months depending on the speed level of the server, you built up your cities and armies in preparation for the "end of days" or whatever it's called. That's when "The Natars" appeared and all hell broke loose and the game ended in an apocalypse. All players were ranked according in the server standings.
I don't remember all of the people from here that played, but Thyiad did and so did Orphan and RPlusplus among others. Since Zhao remembers it, I guess he did too. Anyways, if I remember right, you picked a general area of the map to start on and from there could spread out to other parts. Moving and attacking was a time sink, especially if whoever you attacked or wherever you moved to was on the opposite side of the map, it could take hours to days.
We were all going to move to a remote corner of the map and set up shop with our little "Dii.net family" You could have multiple towns and send supplies back and forth and you attacked other players to steal resources, you could also send your troops to your allies to mount a defense against an incoming attack. You could scout other players, form alliances, go to war and so on...
Well early on I was being attacked by this girl from somewhere in Asia. I sent her an in game mail asking her why she was always attacking me, and she gave me a story saying that she was her friend just farming, and that I could be her farm, meaning all my resources would go to her. She got rude, I countered and got rude back. She then responded saying that she wasn't "her friend" but in fact the "real player" and that she would destroy my town, and got really bitchy.
By then most of the other players in our group were moving out to the more remote area of the map and beginning to set up bases. I don;t remember how it was done, but you sent out a small group which, after a few days of travel, would arrive at the new location on the map and set up a new town that you would start building.
I told this person that I was moving out of the area and that she could have my old base if she left me alone. (players could capture and take over other players towns) She agreed and I sent out my party to create a new base, and she eventually captured and took over my new one.
Thing is, I wasn't admitting defeat nor was I letting her get away with anything. So, I let her win initially and then built a new base on top of a location that could support a very large attack force called a hammer. I build about a dozen bases over the course of a few weeks. Since we were in a remote part of the map, no one was out there except our own allies. I just kept churning out attack troops of every kind that I could make and storing them in one town. It got to the point where I needed resources from other forumers to both generate my attack force and to keep them alive while we waited for the endgame to happen.
I forget how many troops I had. Hundreds of thousands? Mounted troops, cavalry, foot soldiers, catapults, siege weapons, horse carts, servants with pitchforks, etc. Each unit type moved at a different movement rate. I ended up consuming all of the wheat I had from all of my towns and then had to get wheat from Orphan and a few of our other allies just to keep the sheer number of my troops alive until I threw my hammer at her and then needed even more wheat to keep them alive while they traveled to the attack.
The end of days came.
I had told everyone in out group what I was planning to do, so everyone our group sent their hero characters to my bases so that they could join my outgoing attack, people donated troops to me. Then everyone in our group attacked.
Since each troops type moved at a different speed rate, an outgoing attack moved at the rate of your slowest troop type, which was (I think) the catapults/siege weapons. I sent one of each troop type at each of her towns, and sent my main attack force, which was several hundred thousand strong, at her main city. Since they moved at the same rate, she had no way to tell which was the real attack. Orphan and some of the others also sent attacks at her but they were small forces just for annoyance.
She sent me an in game mail asking why I was attacking her, and did not even remember me. When told her who I was she threw a temper tantrum and said she wouldn't forget who i was and would come after me with her entire clan the next season and get revenge. I replied and said good luck wit that! (as I wasn't going to continue to play Travian after that and quit)
Her allies had sent her reinforcements in preparation for the attack too, and then my hammer hit her. Like a speeding truck.
She suffered casualties in the hundreds of thousands troop wise, her main city got completely obliterated and I knocked her back in the server standings from somewhere in the 40's down to maybe 116th place out of all the players on that server. I don't remember what my rank was. But I do remember getting one last, very livid email from her, ranting about how she would get revenge on me.
She never did.
