Is it a big time commitment, ie similar to playing D2, or does it go in shorter bursts of time?

Yes we will. You will be dealing with one or both of us a lot and common players are patient with new players. Most people sit around and just learn how the games function in general as it progresses. bpc, want to link to mafia wiki in the 1st post?

It's really more of a choose your own amount of commitment, but more is better and encouraged! The bare minimum, which is highly discouraged is 1 'contributive' post per day. A day is generally 48 hours real time.
Of course you get into heated discussion and debate and what not and it is very easy to make that minimum.
