The [wiki]Illusionist[/wiki] mod on bosses makes more of them. As one takes damage, it has a chance to spawn another just like itself. The duplicates don't have very many hit points, but they have all the same attack abilities as the boss. That can make for a LOT of zombies when you get Illusionist
