[wiki]Artisan[/wiki] training requires [wiki]gold[/wiki] and [wiki]materials[/wiki]. This seems to be as far as the [wiki]blacksmith[/wiki] can go in the [wiki]Diablo 3 beta[/wiki], with a material required that apparently only drops on [wiki]Nightmare[/wiki] difficulty level.
